Wedding Cakes

I finally got the chance to use my new wedding cake cutter! No, I wont tell you that I have 7+ wedding themed cookie cutters that I have not used yet.  I made some sample cookies of different wedding cake options from abstract to traditional.   I also made a few dozen for my cousin, matching her invitation.

Here are some other options I created:

 * I also have some great cookies with airbrushed designs, but I forgot to take a picture of it!!!!!

Fall and "staches"

Long time, no blogging......Here is a quickie post from me updating my latest and greatest pictures.

I am a big fan of "Fall" but living in Florida, I rarely get to see the leaves change, and it is currently in the mid 80's!

I also made some birthday mustaches for my niece.

I am working on some glass slippers and wedding cakes!  I should have some pictures of those soon!

Baby Shower Cookies

I had a great time helping my friend, Erin with her sister's baby shower!  When I saw Sweet Sugarbelle's fantastic giraffe cookies, animal print cookies and jungle leaves tutorials, I just fell in love!  When my friend said she loved them as well, I took on the challenge!   When I found that Plastics in Print on Etsy started producing the great giraffe cookie cutter, I knew it was fate.  I needed to make these cookies!  I also found a cute elephant tutorial from Sweetopia and I was able to match the ear color to the blue onesie party favors.

I can't thank the wonderful cookie community enough for their great tutorials and sharing their trade secrets!  It is such a help to a beginner like myself!

Each cookie was individually wrapped and tied with a cute gray iridescent bow!

Going to the Chapel.....

This is my first set of wedding inspired cookies and I am in love!!!  I find some foreshadowing as my wedding party favors were COOKIE CUTTERS :)  I see many more wedding, bridal shower, bachelorette or bachelor party cookies in my future.  I was initially inspired by The Wedding Cookie Shoppe's amazing dress with 3 flowers cascading down the front.  This was my first attempt of adding fondant accents.

This then immediately opened my eyes to many other wedding dress designs.

I cant wait to design more!!!

High School Reunion Cookies

High School Reunion Tiger Paws

I love gadgets! Gadgets seem to make my world a little easier, or at least more fun!  I have found many gadgets to use while making cookies and they have turned into must-haves.   I took a couple pictures to show you.

1.  Kitchenaid Stand Mixer
Of course I only show you the "before" picture!

2.  Airbrush machine
I printed out a template to airbrush onto the cookie resulting in uniform cookies.
Before and After

Now all 4 dozen are almost all identical!

I also used the airbrush to add the golden luster shine on the final cookie before adding the '78.

5.  Dehydrator (no,I am not making jerky!)

The dehydrator helps to speed up the drying time of my icing, leaving a shinier exterior, less bubbles and dips in my icing!

Instead of spending hours cutting pieces of tape to close each bag, I can now speedily seal each cookie, which adds the shelf life of each cookie.

5.  My newest gadget is the kopykake projector that I will talk about in my next post! Cant wait for you to see them!!!

Thanks, Liz

4th of July

Get ready for some fireworks! I had some inspiration from some great cookie artist for my 4th of July spread.  The great firework cookies were designed by klickitatstreet, and the stars were from a tutorial by Semisweet Designs.   One day I will set up all my favorite cookie designers for you to browse through on a rainy day.

Speaking of rain, fingers crossed we have some dry weather tomorrow so we can see some great fireworks!
We are having some friends over for a cookout and for dessert???? No, not these cookies, these have been noshed on long ago!

Running Behind/Father's Day

So, I dropped the ball on posting my Father's Day cookies!  Its a hard balance of when to post pics, but also keep it a surprise for the person receiving the cookies, especially when they live in the same house where you are making the cookies.  Lucky for my, my husband was out of town a few days prior to Father's Day and I could secretly finish them without spilling the beans.

I apologize in advance for the over-flashed photo.  It was a last minute click with my cell phone.  In all future cookie pictures, I promise to focus more than a minute to take a great picture, so you can actually get an idea of what the cookie looks like!  I made cute little white business shirt cookies and tie cookies.  I loved having a big variety of ties.

For Father's Day, we had a great time having lunch at The Rainforest Cafe and then browsing around all the Disney/Lego stores in Downtown Disney.  I was amazed that I could get all the boys smiling and looking at the camera for the following picture.

Okay, I am off to finish some baby shower cookies (pictures to come), and start cutting out some cookies for the 4th of July!  I cant believe 2013 is more than halfway over! Have a great week!

Handcut Cookies

Graduation Set

What do you do when you cant find a particular cookie cutter?  First you pull out a couple of hairs, then you get crafty.  I was in need of a graduation cap recently and I could not find one anywhere (stores, online, etc). So, I went to Google Images and found a clip art that was the right size/shape and printed it on thick cardstock. Cut it out to size and hand cut around the template for my cookies.  No, I would not suggest this for more than a dozen cookies, but it is worth it for a few cookies.

Now I am off to start planning some Father's Day cookies!

Three Cheers for Chocolate

This is a shout-out to Georganne at www.lilaloa.com, who is the creator of this delicious chocolate roll out dough.  I have been a big fan of her lovely cookies, countless tips, witty comments, and tasty recipes.

I was just so thrilled at how cute these little bumblebees turned out (well, actually big in comparison to the real thing, yikes).  We can thank the cute dashes on the hive to my nephew, Ben!  For those who know me, this is "jump up and down/clap my hands" kind of awesome!

Thanks for stopping by!

Time for the Beach

Although it has been raining buckets the past couple of days, I needed a little something to brighten my day.  My program supervisor (I am a speech/language pathologist by day) retires at the end of this school year and I made her the following cookies to show her "what to do".  The only thing missing is the margarita cookie!

My Inner Princess

Having 2 boys, I am surrounded by dinosaurs, Legos, various balls, anything with wheels, and dirt.  I have come to accept that I am outnumbered by boys 3-1 in my house and there isn't much focus on anything girly or pink.

So, I was so excited when a friend asked me to make ballet themed cookies.  In one little cookie I was able to get out my inner ballerina, full of pink and sparkle!

Cookies from the past couple of months

Sorry for the mass posting of pictures to follow, but I figured I would "catch myself up" on the blog so that future cookies/crafts will be current.

*I warn you, I am still working on making my photos look pretty.  Sometimes I remember to take pics before wrapping them, sometimes not.  Sometimes I set a stage, sometimes it is a quick click as I am sending them out!

Between now and the next round of cookies, I promise I will learn a little more about photography (cough, Erin, cough).

Now lets talk about Birthdays:

Evan's 7th Golf Themed Birthday with Golf/Soccer balls for school favors

*Note to self, black icing=black teeth, sorry Moms!

Jack's 4th M&M Birthday

*My favorite is the sassy green M&M with her boots!  All the large cookies were for the friends/family party and the mini's were for Jack's class.

Basketballs/Crosses (combo explained below)

My nephew Chris had his 12th birthday and his brother Andrew made his confirmation, so when they had a combo celebration we had basketballs and crosses.

Jenn's new little bundle arrived, so of course she needed baby themed cookies!

Get Well Soon/Teacher Appreciation Week

My mother in law had surgery, so I thought apples were very appropriate...as well as some sweets to heal!

Each of my 4 year old son's teachers got a little box of goodies for Teacher Appreciation Week.  They are awesome teachers and we will miss them!

Cinco de Mayo/Graduation Cookies

My niece graduated from college, so we celebrated in the best way we know how!  Margaritas!!! I even rimmed the glasses with some chunky sugar to resemble salt.  Ole!

This is what my kitchen table has been looking like the past few weeks/months.  Well, this is the nice picture after I have cleaned up all the flour, sugar, icing, etc!

p.s. the awesome basketball plaques were for my nephew Andrew's birthday.  Each plaque has his basketball team logo, and all the players/coaches names on them.  Of course, this is the only picture I have of them completed!!!

Enjoy the eye candy!!!

What is it all about??

Hello everyone!

I started this blog to share my journey of cookie decorating (and other crafts, of course), and maybe a random thought/moment of my day.  I have many thoughts and ideas that ramble through my brain at all times, so now I am sharing some of the madness with you. I know, you are marveling at how generous I am!  So lets get down to business.....

Martha Stewart (sigh, when I say her name I hear the angels sing, do you?)

I don't know if this is most women, but Martha Stewart is the cause of my need to be crafty, and it started at a young age.  Crochet, cross-stitch, making candles, making soap, beading jewelry, decoupage, card making, cooking, and last but not least, baking.  Although I drooled at the TV, magazines, and computer screen at the loveliness that Martha created (and her 100+ employees, I digress), I cannot leave out the person whom I learned  my cooking and baking basics, My Mom.

Decorated Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing

I have been in awe of those beautiful little pieces of art known as a sugar cookie...not the plain, old sugar cookie sprinkled with red/green sugar at Christmastime, you know what I am talking about. Don't get me wrong, they taste delicious!  But..... I am talking about the precise shape of a desired cookie cutter, covered in a sugary shell of perfection that makes everyone pause for a second, before diving in.  That is my impression of Martha Stewart (minus the jail stint).

Anyhoo, I have taken many wrong turns over the years and have tried dozens of cookie/icing recipes and I have finally found something that works for me. I finally feel my inner Martha Stewart emerging and I am so excited to get back in the kitchen and bake!

Thanks for stopping by, and check back in for some new postings of recent cookies I have done over the past couple of months!
